Practice This Every. Single. Day.

Remind Yourself Why You Started.

There have been many programs, projects, hobbies and habits that I have begun and did a handful of times only to fall off after a week, a month or even a few attempts.

I would start something, extremely motivated and energized to pursue this new thing, with a grand vision of where it would bring me, only to not follow through and get anywhere with it.

Some Examples of Where I've done this:

1.) Learning Spanish (Started & Stopped 3-4 times in the first 2-3 years)
2.) Dance (Started & Stopped Many Times Depending on Where I Lived)
3.) This Newsletter (This is my first one in almost a year!)
4.) My Podcast (Created 85 Episodes overall but haven't been consistent in a while)
5.) Creating Content On Social Media (Usually go on streaks of consistency)
6.) Cold Exposure Therapy
7.) Frequent Mobility Work

And there's more than likely one hundred more areas.

So why am I telling you this? To hammer home this concept.

"You cannot fail, if you do not quit."

It doesn't matter how many times you have started and stopped, as long as you keep catching yourself and beginning again.

Whether You Want:

1.) To Create a New Business
2.) To Get In Better Shape
3.) To Start Dating
4.) To Break Some Bad Habits
5.) To Learn a New Hobby or Skill

So how do you make sure that you keep starting again, stay consistent and minimize the amount of times that you forget and fall off the wagon?

By reminding yourself constantly each and every day of what you want.

Some ways to keep your goals top of mind:

1.) Write them down first thing in the morning
2.) Carve out time in your calendar to pursue them each day
3.) Meditate/ Visualize about them
4.) Talk about them with friends and family
5.) Create a Vision Board
6.) Leave the routine, go on a trip or in nature & take a look at from the big picture
7.) Surround yourself with people that are like-minded and support your goals, where you want to go and what you want to become

Inevitably, life is going to "life" as they say. You will be faced with periods of time when it is going to be more difficult to stay consistent.

There will be holidays, injuries, vacations, increased work responsibilities, family matters, illnesses, doubts, setbacks and inconveniences of all kinds.

So what do we do? How do we stay consistent in the face of the chaos?

We remain adaptable.

James Clear said it best: "In theory, consistency is about being disciplined, determined, and unwavering. In practice, consistency is about being adaptable.

Don't have much time? Scale it down. Don't have much energy? Do the easy version. Find different ways to show up depending on the circumstances.

Let your habits change shape to meet the demands of the day.

Adaptability is the way of consistency."

What matters is not that we put in the same amount of effort, energy and time in each day because that is an unsustainable approach and you will fall off.

What matters is that you do the best you can and show up in some way for that specific day.

If you can't do the full hour workout, do 50 pushups at your house. If you can't write the whole newsletter, write the title, or come up with an idea for it and outline it.

If you can't send 20 outreach messages, than send 1 (Calling You Out My Ghostwriting Clients👀 ðŸ˜‚)

The whole point is that our best is going to look different every single day and week. Sometimes our best will be to lock in 100% and move mountains.

Other days, our best will just be to show up in some capacity.

Do the best you can for each day, it's going to look different each day, week, month and year, however, this is the key to staying consistent for the long run.

The versions of ourselves that we want to become and the lives that we are creating are a result of compound interest of hundreds of thousands of small choices and decisions that we make on a daily basis.

Overall, just make sure that you are trending in the right direction over the long term and in the big picture of things.

Here are some action steps to take from this newsletter:
1.) Decide What You Want In Life & Who You Want To Become
2.) Carve Out Time Each Day Towards Attaining and Creating That Reality
3.) Remind Yourself Every Single Day About Why It's Important To You
4.) Forgive Yourself When You Slip Up
5.) Begin Again.

You got this.
